Happy Chinese New Year loves!
For those of you who are unaware, China and other parts of Asia celebrate the Lunar Calendar and today is CHINESE NEW YEAR!
Chinese New Year is a HUGE celebration especially overseas. For them, it can be a whole 15 days of celebrations, filled with family, food, fireworks, lanterns and dragons.
For my family, we celebrated today with food and family time. Since I was young, the whole family goes to Pópo (Grandma) and Yéyé (Grandpa) house for a late breakfast of homemade dumplings, beef and cucumber salad, jelly fish salad and much more. Today we also had some delicious steamed buns, filled with pork, veggies and noodles.
Along with the delicious food and time with family, children – young adults are given a hongbao (red envelope). This is probably one of the best parts of Chinese New Year. These beautiful envelopes decorated with Chinese characters that symbolize luck, fortune and prosperity and filled with $.
In order to receive these envelopes, you must say these traditional phrases to your elder.
Xīn Nián Kuài Lè! | Happy New Year
Gōng xǐ fācái | Happiness and prosperity
Shēn tǐ jiàn kāng | Wish you good health
Wàn shì rú yì | May your dreams come true
